The Finn Gold Cup returns to Portugal this year for only the third time in its 65-year history with Porto hosting the event from 5-12 May. The event will not only determine the 2021 Finn world champion but also the final two places at the Tokyo Olympic Games. There are two places left to decide, one European place and one African place to complete the fleet 19 taking part in the Games.

The competition for the final European place will be intense, with a large number of sailors challenging for that final place, though the battle has narrowed over the past year with several sailors forced to give up following the postponement to the Olympics. For the African place there are expected to be two or three sailors.

On both occasions that the Finn Gold Cup has been in Portugal before, it was held in Cascais. The last since was the ISAF Worlds in 2007, but the first time was in 1970 when the fleet numbered 180 entries, still the largest ever Finn Gold Cup fleet to date.

The 2021 Finn Gold Cup will be decided over a 10 race series, after the class decided to drop the medal race last year. Entry is now open with early entry available until 1 April.
