Power sailing day in Palma perfect for Finn fleet

Sunny Palma laid on some of its best conditions for the third day of the 47th Trofeo Princesa Sofia IBEROSTAR as two more tightly fought races left Josh Junior (NZL) with a reduced lead in the Finn fleet. Giles Scott (GBR) is now just four points behind, with Pieter-Jan Postma (NED) remaining in third. Race wins went to Junior and Jake Lilley (AUS).

Josh Junior leads after high scoring second day in sunny Palma

Josh Junior (NZL) has taken the lead in the Finn fleet at the 47th Trofeo Princesa Sofia IBEROSTAR after a day in which many of the front runners picked up some high scores, including Giles Scott (GBR) who drops to second. Pieter-Jan Postma (NED) won the second race of the day to end up third overnight. The first race was won by Oliver Tweddell (AUS).

Crucial Palma regatta gets underway in perfect conditions

The Finn fleet got off to a perfect start at the 47th Trofeo Princesa Sofia IBEROSTAR on Monday with a 12-17 knot breeze providing great racing conditions and great competition. Giles Scott (GBR) won the second race and leads overnight, while Anders Pedersen (NOR) had one of his best day's ever to sit in second. Josh Junior (NZL) is third. The first race was won by Jake Lilley (AUS).

Battle lines drawn on Bay of Palma


The battle lines will be drawn on the Bay of Palma over the next six days. At stake are the final country selections for the Finn class at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. At the end of the 47th Trofeo Princesa Sofia IBEROSTAR, the final European spot and the single African spot will be decided. The stakes couldn't be higher with eight countries targeting one European place and two for the single African spot.
