2015 Danish National Championships - and now for something completely different

This year is going to be different. Very different.

The Danish Finn Association has developed a new concept for this years open Danish National Championships. After analysing the dynamics of a typical 50 minutes race, we found, that the same pattern always seems to develop; the fleet is stretched out, with the first boats finishing while the back of the fleet is entering the last downwind leg. This creates some frustration and it makes it nearly impossible to regain what has been lost, and basically you have two fleets on the course.

In order to avoid this, and in an attempt to reinstate some public interest in the fine sport of sailing a Finn, DFA has decided to shorten the length of the races drastically. The target time of each race will be 20-25 minutes, with the goal of completing 36 races during the three days the regatta takes place. There will most likely be no deducting of scores, so every race counts.

The advantages we hope to achieve are more intense sailing, lots of focus on positioning, a closer knit fleet and hopefully a situation where the downwind playing field has been leveled during free pumping conditions. We can all manage a short sprint.

On land, in Vallensbæk just South of Copenhagen, there will be a wetbar, live music and a big party for the sailors.

In 2014 we were 48 boats on the line. We hope for even more boats in 2015 and we sincerely hope you will join us from 6-8th August 2015 in Vallensbæk., host of the 2009 Finn Gold Cup!
