About FINNTEAM

foglia-fgc2014Finn sailors around the world are joining forces in a new academy based racing team to achieve their sailing goals at the highest level – the Olympic Games.

By working together as a team unit they benefit from a tight team structure, but also learn about, appreciate and accept widely different cultures and ways of living. Collaboration and tolerance is in-built into the programme.

This is an entirely new approach to the training unit. Traditionally small groups of similar nationalities would train together to try and make advances on the rest of the world. With FINNTEAM the learning is done together.

It is learning for life as much as it is learning to win. FINNTEAM will involve sailors from almost every continent in the world. Already the Dinghy Academy in Valencia where the FINNTEAM project will begin welcomes sailors from countries as diverse as Argentina and Iran, from Bermuda to Ukraine, from USA to Russia.

FINNTEAM is starting with a select group of five sailors from Argentina, Ireland, Uruguay and USA.

But to succeed at their goals – individually and as a team – they need help. They already have a lot of help. Through grants provided by the International Finn Class Association (see finnclass.org) they have benefitted from the Internationally renowned training centre, The Dinghy Academy, in Valencia, Spain, run by 2000 Olympic Silver Medalist Luca Devoti.

It is all about working as a team to raise the level of the team so that individuals can achieve greatness. That is what the Dinghy Academy has been doing for the past three years and what FINNTEAM can do with greater scope with increased assistance. Together, the Finn Class, FINNTEAM and you can help more young Finn athletes from across the world achieve their dream and sail for their country at the Olympic Games.

The FINNTEAM will share branding across all sailors and equipment.
