Brutal opening day for 2026 Finn Gold Cup
Norway’s Anders Pedersen was the stand out performer on the brutal opening day of the 2026 Finn Gold Cup. The event, partnered by Porsche Centre Brisbane, is being hosted by the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, in Brisbane, Australia. Pedersen took two race wins in some very challenging conditions in Moreton Bay. Alessandro Marega, from Italy, is second with Anthony Nossiter, from Australia in third. There are 72 sailors from 14 countries taking part.
Finntastic sailing conditions ahead of Finn Gold Cup in Brisbane
Winter arrived early in Brisbane for the practice race ahead of the 2026 Finn Gold Cup with Porsche Centre Brisbane. Strong winds combined with a sharp sea, intermittent rain and unusually low temperatures severely reduced the fleet on Saturday. There was little love for these conditions though those who ventured out came back with tall stories and several muddied top masts.
First impressions of the 2026 Finn Gold Cup
The 2026 Finn Gold Cup opens on Saturday 14 February with 70 Finn sailors from 14 countries on the entry list.
Australian Nationals 2026 - Brisbane
Brendan Casey is leading the 2026 Australian Finn Nationals after four races so far on Waterloo Bay in Brisbane. Rafael Trujillo is a close second with Ian McKillop in third.
Finn sailing is sailing at its finest
In a world that is seemingly going stark raving bonkers it’s time for a little bit of sanity. After a decade of hope and years of planning, the Finn world is finally descending on Brisbane, Australia for the next three weeks. Though it might sometimes appear you have to be slightly insane to sail a Finn, the normalisation it brings is the great equaliser.
