The 2013 Finn Silver Cup, the Junior World Championship for the Finn is set to start in Malcesine, Italy. Sailors from 14 countries and four continents will fight for the title won last year by Canadian Martin Robitaille.

Robitaille (CAN) is back to defend his title and will be among the favorites along with past Junior World Champions Arcadiy Kistanov (RUS) and Jorge Zarif (BRA). Class newcomer from Australia Jake Lilley, who is placed 8th in the ISAF World ranking, or Dimitar Vangelov (BUL), second in the Junior European last year, also stand good chances.

The youngest contenders are Artur Kotlyarov from Russia and Italian Matteo Savio. While 17 years old Savio will race his first Silver Cup, it will be the third for Kotlyarov who started racing in the Finn at age 15 in the 2011 Finn Silver Cup in Moscow.

The event started with the traditional IFA clinic organised by IFA coach Paul Mckenzie. During five days sailors took part in the free training promoted by the Finn class to give further help to sailors with no coach. The clinic has particularly attracted sailors from Russia, Bulgaria, and Germany.

With Northern Europe bringing a good fleet of Junior Finn sailors with Poland, Russia, Germany, Norway, Holland and Great Britain, other continents being represented by Canada, Brazil and Australia.

All the flags were raised during the opening ceremony in the presence of the Mayor of Malcesine and the club Chairman.

Racing will start on Sunday 7th of July with 11 races scheduled up to Saturday 12th.
