It was a big day in Rio on the second day of racing for Finns at the Olympic Sailing Competition. Racing on the Niteroi courses area out on the open ocean, the Finn fleet excelled in the huge waves in big winds. Giles Scott (GBR) put his worries from Tuesday behind him to record the performance of the day to move into the overall lead. Vasilij Zbogar (SLO) drops to second while Alican Kaynar (TUR) drops one place to third.

The talk going into the Rio 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition was that anything and everything could happen. Well, as the Finns started racing today, it did. Out of the crazy conditions, the youngest sailor, Facundo Olezza (ARG) won the first race, while the oldest sailor, Vasilij Zbogar (SLO) won the second. After two races, Zbogar leads overall from Alican Kaynar (TUR) and Olezza.

Four years of training and four years of careful preparation and it’s come down to this: 23 Finn heroes lining up against each other in front of the awesome spectacle that is Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janiero. The 2016 Olympics for the Finn class is just one day away. The training is done. Now the sailors just want the battle to begin.

Here are the 23 Finn sailors who will be going head to head over the next two weeks for the ultimate prize of Olympic gold. Only three of these sailors will win a medal in what is widely regarded as one of the toughest and most physical of Olympic events.
