Giles Scott dominates first Rio test

Giles Scott (GBR) once again proved to be almost unbeatable in the latest demonstration of his domination of the Finn class. At the Aquece Rio Olympic Test Event he won six out of the 11 races, and apart from a seventh in the opening race was never out of the top five all week. In what was generally thought to be quick shifty and tricky conditions, he wrapped up the week with another dominant race win in the medal race.

Video alert: Finn World Masters 2014 – 235 Finn sailors having fun

The 2014 Finn World Masters was a week of all or nothing. At the start there was not enough wind and then towards the end, almost too much wind. In spite of that, the same faces were pushing the front of the fleet with Michael Maier (CZE)) collecting a record sixth World Masters title. For runner-up Andre Budzien (GER), it was his tenth time on the podium, an equally impressive record. The bronze for Aleksandr Kuliukin (RUS) perhaps signals a new force in the Finn Masters with three Russian sailors making the medal race, the first time any of them have done so.

Michael Maier wins record sixth Finn World Masters after drama filled final day in Sopot

The Finn World Masters ended with another day of strong winds, with the final fleet races followed by the medal race for the top 12. Defending champion, Michael Maier (CZE) could only finish fourth in the race but it was enough to take a record sixth Finn World Masters title. Andre Budzien (GER) had to settle for silver again, while Aleksandr Kuliukin (RUS) placed third in the race to snatch the bronze.
