Richart Hart

Richard Hart was the Chairman of the Technical Committee from 1989 to 2015, making him the longest serving official in the history of the class. He has been involved in the class since 1961 as a sailor and official, with his best result being a third place in the 1965 Finn Gold Cup in Poland. In 1989 he was asked to be Chairman of the Technical Committee and oversaw the modernisation of the class over the next three decades. As a sailor he competed in many Olympic trials during this time and won several British Nationals. After a break, he returned to competitive  Finn sailing in 1989 and is still regularly sailing his Finn. In 2010 and 2014 he won
the Legend category at the Finn World Masters.

Jüri Saraskin

Jüri Saraskin started sailing in 1952, and since 1962 his life was intricately connected to the Finn class, initially as a sailor and after 1967 as a measurer. He was twice Finn Champion of Estonia, in 1968 and 1970, and was the Chief Measurer of the Finn class from 1992 up to his death in 2018. His scientific background and experience enabled him to develop and refine a lot of tools and methods for full and accurate measurement of dinghies. He was instrumental in ensuring that modern Finns are measured accurately and consistently so that all boats are as alike as possible.

Rafael Trujillo Villar (February 2026)

Rafa Trujillo was inducted into the Finn Class Hall of Fame during the closing ceremony of the Porsche Centre Brisbane 2026 Finn Gold Cup at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, in Brisbane, Australia. Trujillo is most famous in the Finn class for having won the silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the 2007 Finn Gold Cup in Cascais, Portugal, and the 2016 Finn World Masters on Garda. After four Olympic Games appearances, three times in a Finn, he turned to coaching and was behind the youngest ever winner of the Finn Gold Cup, Jorge Zarif, in 2013. Since then, he has become a coach for Australian Sailing, most notably coaching Matt Wearn to Olympic Gold in Paris 2024. His other sailing achievements and awards are well renowned.

Tim Tavinor (February 2026)

During the opening ceremony of the Porsche Centre Brisbane 2026 Finn World Masters, Tim Tavinor inducted into the Finn Class Hall of Fame inside of week. There are few people who have had such a huge impact on the Finn class as Tim Tavinor. In the early 1990s, alongside Luca Devoti, he helped create Victor Boats and the Devoti hull that transformed Finn sailing worldwide. It is no idle statement that without this development the class is unlikely to have thrived in the way it has over the past 30 years.

After helping move the boatbuilding operation, by then called Devoti Sailing, to Eastern Europe, in 2005 he moved away from Finn building and bought Petticrows boatyard in Burnham-on-Crouch, where he carried on the company’s tradition of building world beating Dragons. In 2014 he returned to Finn production, with the release of the Petticrows Finn, which was later sold to DC Composites in The Netherlands to produce the world beating TT2 Finn. In 2022 Tim then became chair of the Technical Committee of the International Finn Association.

Tim was also a formidable opponent on the race course, and campaigned Finns through the 1980s and 1990s, and narrowly missed Olympic selection.
