From 2027 the Finn Gold Cup and Open Europeans (when not combined with the Masters Europeans) will be limited in numbers. The target number is 120 entries.

There will be a quota system with places per nation based on the membership numbers of each national association (NFA).
The first event where this quota will be applied is the 2027 Finn Gold Cup in La Rochelle.
The intention for 2027 is as follows (this may be modified by the IFA Event Manual or Notice of Race).
• 100 places will be offered to NFAs based on the size of its membership on 1 May 2026 (this may be later). IFA will reserve and award the remaining 20 places.
• Everynation is entitled to one place and no country will be offered more than 15 places in Round 1.
Round 1:
• NFAs will be invited to claim places up to this quota number by 1 March 2027.
• NFAs may also request additional places (these will be allocated up to 1 April 2027 from any places unclaimed by other countries quota).
• NFAs may also request one additional U29 place out of the IFA reserved places. Approval of this place will be based on past attendance and support of U29 sailors, as well as available places.
• IFA special places must all be claimed and paid for directly by 1 March and these places will come out of the reserve list.
• All these places must be entered and paid for by 1 May 2027. Any places untaken by then will be reallocated
• A list of quota entries from each NFA must be sent to the OA by 10 May detailing the payment made.
• Every attempt will be made to allocate and reallocate all places by the end of Round 1.
Round 2:
• On 15 May 2027, any remaining places not claimed and paid for in Round 1 will be made available online on a first come first served basis. The entry fee is payable on entry, and before it will be accepted.
• Refunds will only be made if the full quota is met and the space has been refilled
• A reserve list of names will be created to fill any further gaps that appear
