It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our friend and fellow sailor, Ricardo Filipe Machado Santos (BRA 97).
Ricardo was dearly loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As a friend, father, son, husband, and sailor, he left his mark through his generosity, kindness, and constant willingness to help others. He had a respectful, easygoing, and truly companionable way of relating to people, leaving behind fond memories wherever he went.
Passionate about sailing, Ricardo built a beautiful history in the sport. He sailed for many years in the Snipe Class alongside his father, Paulo Santos, with whom he shared races, lessons learned, and countless victories. Later on, he found in the Finn Class one of his greatest passions.
In the Finn Class, Ricardo was much more than a sailor. He was a great supporter and promoter of the class, always present, always involved, encouraging other sailors and helping to keep alive the spirit of friendship and camaraderie that we value so deeply. Dedicated and focused in everything he did, both on and off the water, he always sought to give his very best.
For us, what remains are the memories of the races, the conversations, the gatherings, and the privilege of sharing time with someone who lived with enthusiasm, respect, and joy. His time with us was marked by dedication, friendship, and love for life and for sailing. For all of us, it will always be an honor to have walked and sailed alongside him.
At this time of sorrow, we extend our most heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, wishing them strength, serenity, and comfort as they face this irreparable loss.
May the cherished memories, the friendship, and the legacy Ricardo leaves behind bring comfort and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
